Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey for a lighter option
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 10.5 oz condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can 10.5 oz condensed cream of celery soup
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables peas, carrots, and corn
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 cups frozen tater tots
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika optional, for added flavor

Method

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set it aside.
Step 2: Cook the Meat and Vegetables
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it into small pieces with a spoon.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  3. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
Step 3: Combine the Filling
  1. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup, frozen mixed vegetables, salt, pepper, and paprika (if using). Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  2. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
Step 4: Assemble the Hotdish
  1. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  2. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the mixture.
  3. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese, covering the entire surface.
Step 5: Bake and Serve
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the filling is bubbling.
  2. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
