Newfoundland Molasses Buns Recipe (Lassy Buns)

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup raisins optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix molasses, brown sugar, hot water, melted butter, and egg until smooth.
  4. Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry mix until combined. Fold in raisins if using.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until firm. Let cool before serving.
