Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cake: Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix sugar, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
- Sauce: Combine brown sugar, water (or maple syrup), and butter in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Pour batter into a greased 8x8 inch baking dish. Carefully pour hot sauce over batter.
- Bake 30-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
