Ingredients
  

For the Pie Crust:
  • 2 ½ cups 315g all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 225g cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 6-8 tablespoons ice water
For the Filling:
  • 1 ½ pounds 680g ground beef
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup 120ml beef broth
  • ½ cup 50g breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 large potatoes peeled and cubed

Method
 

  1. Make the Pie Crust
  2. Combine flour and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  4. Add ice water, mix until dough forms, and divide into two discs.
  5. Prepare the Filling
  6. Brown ground beef in a skillet; drain fat.
  7. Add onion, garlic, spices, and cook until fragrant.
  8. Stir in beef broth, breadcrumbs, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened.
  9. Make the Mashed Potatoes
  10. Boil peeled potatoes until tender.
  11. Mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  12. Assemble the Pie
  13. Roll out one dough disc and line a 9-inch pie dish.
  14. Add the meat filling, then spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
  15. Roll out the second dough disc, place it over the filling, and crimp the edges. Cut steam vents.
  16. Bake the Pie
  17. Brush the crust with egg wash.
  18. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, until golden and bubbling.
  19. Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
